I was laid off and now running a profitable games studio. Never give up on your dreams.
And it was a tough journey with ample lows and less highs.
Bootstrapped. Profitable. Organic Growth. We are just getting started 🚀
I started Momo games during the pandemic with the itch to develop games. Back then it was a gold rush for game-devs and $$ was flowing all around.
In 2022, I had put Momo Games on hold to go to Germany to work as a Game Lead (probably should have continued with MG 😆).
By the end of 2022, I was laid off and came back to India and tried building my games but things did not go the way I wanted them to - I was still trying the 2020 approach in 2022 when the market had shifted tremendously.
2023 was tough and I was still burning money (working with mobile publishers😂) as I had hired a dev team but by the end of it, we saw some light in web games and doing client projects.
The thought of a safe stable paycheck as an employee crossed my mind many times and I did apply for jobs but at the end of it, I asked if would it be worth it to join a new company, only to have the chance of being laid off because of the factors that would be out of my control?
January 2024, we break even and are steadily growing our revenue.
February 2024, we are profitable.
This is it in a nutshell. I will write a detailed post on this in upcoming posts, stay tuned if you would like to read more!
It has been a wild rollercoaster ride. There will be more lows than highs when you start everything from scratch.
In the coming months, as a game maker, we will explore new genres, markets, and unconventional ways to build + deliver our games while generating $$$.
Keep building, Keep shipping.
